Obituary

Thomas Wesley “Tom” Addcox, 83, passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2026, surrounded by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Gilbert Addcox, and his daughter, Katie. Tom was born on August 8, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas.

He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. A decorated Vietnam Veteran and former prisoner of war, Tom rarely spoke about his military service, but his service and sacrifice remained an important part of his life.

Following his military service, Tom dedicated his career to leadership in the nonprofit world, serving as director of several national charitable organizations. His career took him from Washington, D.C., to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and ultimately to Memphis, Tennessee, where he and Nancy made their home in Germantown for 35 years before retiring.

Tom loved to read, particularly enjoying American history and wartime stories. He and Nancy loved to travel the world, and Israel was among their favorite destinations. Tom was also an avid golfer, known for driving the ball more than 250 yards, straight down the fairway. He was often surrounded by fellow golfers at the driving range seeking advice about their swings.

He was known for his dry sense of humor, his fondness for suits and sweater vests, and his extensive collection of Jerry Garcia ties, which provided the family with plenty of opportunities for teasing.

Tom is survived by his wife, Nancy Gilbert Addcox; his daughter, Katie Foster (Kevin); his grandson, Jonah; his brother, Gary Addcox; brother-in-law Bill and sister-in-law Pat; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Miami Township, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to remember Tom to make a donation in his name to a charity of their choice.
